Things have really been busy at work. We had camp for the 4-H kids and Fair coming up within 2 weeks of each other. Both involve tons of paper work. The kids left for camp today so things have slowed down a bit for now.
I haven't been sleeping very well and that combined with all the work I've had and my treatment is due this week is leaving me very pooped!! My treatment will only be 1/2 of what I normally get due to the contamination, but I am thankful that God has allowed me that much. I hope this will only be for 2 months then back to normal.
Our garden isn't doing so well this year. It's just too cool at nights for the tomatoes to ripen. I have picked on mess of green beans and frozen 1 quart of blackberries. I have another pint or so picked and more to pick. I will decide later if I am going to make jelly or not.
We are overflowing with eggs. The chickens are great layers. We have been selling some and giving some away.
We will go to see April and Lily tomorrow night, if all goes well. We are trying to spend one evening a week with them. Lily is a very sweet baby. Last week I rocked her to sleep. There is nothing better than a sleeping baby in your arms.

Home Again
We made it home after a long and wonderful vacation. We went to Florida and spent a few days with Daniel, Larissa and Dixie. We had a really good time with them. Dixie is so smart for a 3 1/2 year old. She can be pretty funny, too. Hopefully, I'll have some pictures to post after this weekend when I finish unpacking.
Then we went to Georgia to my family's reunion. Our theme this year was the Wild West. We dressed up like cowboys and Indians and played all kinds of games. It was a blast!
Last night we got together with April and Lily for my birthday. Lily is growing so fast, she has her first tooth and is starting to crawl.
When we got home Monday night we had 7 baby chicks that hatched while we were away. This is the first time we have ever had chicks hatched on our farm. One of the hens started setting so we left her to it. She seems to be doing a great job at mothering. I hope that they all make it. I really don't know what to do for chicks that have a mother. We have always ordered ours and had to keep them under lights so I am not sure what to expect. I guess we'll learn as we go, which is how we've learned everything so far.
Our garden isn't doing as well as last year. It's been really wet here and the weeds are loving it. The blackberries are coming on good. They are really big and some of them are starting to turn black.
I am going to try my hand at elderberry tonic this year. I understand that it's really good for colds. I have been fighting a really bad one this week and that makes me even more determined to make it. The berries are just beginning to set on the bushes. They should be ripe in just a few weeks.
We bought peaches and watermelons while we were in Georgia. I plan on putting up some of the peaches this weekend. I usually make jelly form the leftover peelings, but I still have so much left over from last year that I don't think I'll make jelly this year.
